Breast Augmentation with Uplift

About

When a low and empty bust is enlarged and lifted at the same time the results can be excellent. But those who have a very low bust and loose breast skin as well must instead have the breast uplift first, recover from surgery and then have a breast augmentation a few months later.

Consultation Process

This combines the assessment for both breast augmentation an uplift operations. You can read about this the sections Breast Augmentation and Mastopexy. It involves making measurements and drawing on the breast as if planning surgery. Breast implant size is determined by the base width of the breast. The uplift procedure is judged by the current nipple position, it’s predicted new location and how much skin must be removed. A judgement is also made of the skin quality and whether it will it hold the lifted breast in place. Only those who skin is resilient and will hold the lifted position are suitable for surgery.

Operation

The breast augmentation part is done first. The incision is in the predicted crease under the breast and the implant placed under the pectoral muscle and the lower edge is released (dual plane technique) allowing maximum projection. An attractive cleavage produced by positioning the implant inwards and placement is then adjusted in the sitting position to achieve the best appearance. The implant will stay in that position so the result is controllable and predictable. The uplift part of the operation is then performed in the sitting position. The excess skin drawn on the breast before surgery is removed, the nipple moved up and the breast lifted as the skin is brought tight. The nipple/areola is often also reduced in size. I ensure that the surgery produces the best result possible and photograph this at the end of the operation. Local anaesthetic is injected before you wake up so it’s not painful after surgery. The dressing is removed the next morning and you will shower straight away.

Recovery

The recovery period of 2 weeks is relatively easy but you must limit activity. I have a minimal approach to dressings preferring that everything is visible and easy to manage. You will keep the area clean by showering daily and return for a check at 14 days . Light clothing is best until then. Special bras are not needed. After the stitch lines have healed a crop top or stretchy sports top is simple and convenient.

Result

In the consultation you will be shown typical results a few months after surgery so you know what to expect. The final outcome will be a little lower than immediately after surgery as skin has some ‘give’ and relaxes a bit. The procedure will take this into account and an allowance made for the nipple to descend slightly. That only leaves the skin under the breast to worry about. If there is an unexpected looseness in this location then revision (repeat) surgery might be needed. This revision surgery will incur further cost which varies between hospitals and may influence your choice of location.
