Breast Uplift - Mastopexy

About

I have done over 1250 Breast Uplift operations. Sagging breasts cause physical symptoms of neck and shoulder pain from heavy bras as well as skin problems in the crease underneath. The breasts are lifted from a loose position below the crease making them tight and high on the chest with the nipple pointing forwards. Sometimes an uplift is done with insertion of implants to create more volume if needed.

Excess skin is removed from the lower part of the sagging breast and around the nipple. The nipple/areolar is also made smaller if it’s too big. The results are excellent. The scar line is a small circle around the nipple, then down to the crease under the breast and along this fold. The nipple is not separated, nerves are not cut, so sensation is unchanged and breast feeding is not affected.

Consultation Process

The consultation is to predict what your result will look like. Then you can judge if surgery is right for you. This involves drawing on the breast and taking photographs as if planning surgery. I show how much of the breast and the nipple is below the crease and how much skin must be removed to tighten and lift it up. The nipple/areola may also be reduced in size. Your photos are compared with previous patients on my extensive database so you can see the predicted result and make an informed decision about surgery. You can see photos showing this in the Gallery. Judgement is also made about skin quality to be sure that it will hold the lifted breast in place.

Operation

This is Day Case surgery. You do not need to stay overnight. Lines are drawn on the breast before surgery showing the amount of skin to be removed and the new nipple position. The procedure is done in the sitting position. Skin is removed, the nipple is moved upwards and the breast lifted as the skin is tightened as much as possible. The nipple/areola is also reduced in size. The stitches are dissolving. Long acting local anaesthetic is injected well before you wake up, so it’s not painful after surgery. The dressing is a simple pad and broad tape to keep it in place. This dressing is removed the day. After this you will shower straight away.

Recovery

The recovery period of 2 weeks is relatively easy. I have a minimal approach to dressings preferring that everything is visible and easy to clean. You will shower daily and return for a check at 10-14 days. Light clothing is best until then. Special bras are not needed. After the stitch lines have healed a crop top or stretchy sports top is simple and convenient. The followup appointment is 2 months later.
