Breast Uplift - Mastopexy

About

I have done over 1000 Breast Uplift operations. It is the second most popular procedure after breast augmentation. The operation lifts the breast from a loose position below the crease making it tight and high on the chest with the nipple pointing forwards. Sometimes an uplift is done with insertion of implants if volume is needed as well.

The operation removes excess skin from around and under the nipple. The nipple is also made smaller if it’s too big. Excellent results are produced when the skin is strong and the breast is not too heavy. The scar line is a circle around the edge of the nipple, then down to the crease under the breast and along this fold. The nipple is not separated, nerves are not cut, so sensation is unchanged and breast feeding is not affected.

Consultation Process

The consultation is to predict what your result will look like. Then you can judge if surgery is right for you. This involves drawing on the breast and taking photographs as if planning surgery. We show how much of the breast and the nipple is below the crease and how much skin must be removed to tighten and lift it up. The nipple/areola may also be reduced in size. Your photos are compared with previous patients so you can see the predicted result and make an informed decision about surgery. You can see photos showing this in the Gallery. A judgement is also made of the skin quality and whether it will it hold the lifted breast in place.

Operation

Lines are redrawn on the breast before surgery showing the amount of skin to be removed and the new nipple position. The procedure is done in the sitting position. Skin is removed, the nipple is moved up and the breast lifted as the skin is brought tight. The nipple/areola is often also reduced in size. I ensure that the surgery produces the best result possible and photograph this at the end of the operation. The stitches are dissolving. Local anaesthetic is injected before you wake up so it’s not painful after surgery. The dressing is removed the next morning and you will shower straight away.

Recovery

The recovery period of 2 weeks is relatively easy. I have a minimal approach to dressings preferring that everything is visible and easy to clean. You will shower daily and return for a check at 14 days. Light clothing is best until then. Special bras are not needed. After the stitch lines have healed a crop top or stretchy sports top is simple and convenient.

The Result

Photographs before and at the end of your procedure will show the best that can be achieved. However the final outcome will be a little lower than immediately after the operation and this depends on the strength and resilience of your skin.

If your skin is extremely loose and inelastic it may not hold up and the perfect result achieved during surgery slowly drops. If this is likely then I warn that revision (repeat) surgery might be needed. This revision surgery will incur further cost which varies between hospitals and may influence your choice of location.
